[Stoves] re Charcoal in Gambia

Good evening,

I am < adding fuel > to the discussion on charcoal.

The last HEDON newsletter gave the link to an interesting article talking
about a study from a team of economists and scientists:

They found out that, in the case of Tanzania, the benefits of promoting
charcoal-efficient stoves and increasing agricultural yields outweigh the
benefits of paying the developing countries not to cut wood (via the REDD
mechanism).

In that case, it is not about prohibiting, it is about giving incentives.
Both actions do not address the basic needs: cooking and land for
agriculture. Neither the stick nor the carrot are likely to work without
actions directly aiming at these needs.

Cheers,

Xavier
