Dear Paul

>...Another question is how is the WBT used by the EPA different from which
version of the other WBT's?

All I know about the inner workings of the WBT that Jim is using is that he
is using the method of calculating the thermal efficiency that was proposed
for WBT4, which is to say that the thermal efficiency is calculated on the
boiling phase only and the simmering phase is ignored.

That is encouraging from my perspective. Other critical issues would be the
use of the 5 litres of water as the `quantity of water boiled` (because it
is) for the specific fuel consumption number, and the manner in which the
heat value of the fuel and char remaining is done. Those were three of the
most serious errors in the WBT3.

Issues like the turn-down ratio are more subjective so I presume that still
remains the ratio between the high power and simmer power with the lid off
(maybe). Others want the ratio between high and low power which is nearly
always a larger ratio.

It would be great if Jim let know what they are using. There is still a lot
of discussion on the topic. The SeTAR and SEET Lab protocols have been
described at the sample sheet (presently v2.593) is available to researchers
for the actual code used in the spreadsheet.

Regards
Crispin
