Bi-metallic strips cost almost nothing.
They activate a small relay that cuts power to the fan supplying primary
air.
The total cost of strip and relay is less than 30 cents US.
What is there to patent?
The patent is in a new construction that uses such a strip. Anything new
assembly of existing parts that does something useful can be patented. The
usual argument in favour of something simple is that it costs less to
manufacture which is a 'benefit' and is therefore an advance over the
existing technology.
