Perhaps you are focussing on the consequences, not the causes of the derangement of the world. 

Pick up a dog-eared copy of "Confessions of am Economic Hitman" by John Perkins and you will find many (of the bigger) things explained. The environment is a lower-on-the-totel-pole issue for these boys. 

Also remember that the erosion of the social/spiritual environment precedes the destruction of the material one. You can't fix the latter without effectively addressing the former. 

Your last message is intended to raise awareness of the need for the former with the idea to address the first issue: people, not things. It is appreciated.
