Thanks Frans,

this is what we know and experience every day. Mineral blockage due to 
high lime.

Do you know how much humus it takes to relly change soil ph in a 
measurable way?

Ginourmous amounts if we talk about 8.0, leave alone 8.5 !

I wondered if any "doable" amounts of charcoal can help.

Of course science is important, Frank, but when it is about very complex 
and interactive matters, practical experience and empirical, intuitive 
investigation is often faster -and cheaper.

Good farmers have very critical eyes and allthough they perhaps cannot 
explain a phaenomenum in a scientific language, they very well 
understand how to work with it. And this is what is important to them.
