[Stoves] "Maker Movement"

There is a rather negative review of the Maker movement, Making It,  starting on page 69 of the January 13, 2014 New Yorker.  The author, Evgeny Morozov has a distinct reputation.

Worth reading as well add the various critiques of the essay.
