[Stoves] Evidence of carcinogenicity/toxicity in emission from rice straw pellet gasification

Dear Tuong,

Could you please describe what type of gasifier unit, you are testing.
Most gasifier units I know of, are Top Lit and some are Up Draft.

Is it a Fan Driven gasifier or a Natural Draft?
What`s the temperature at the pyrolytic front and do the unit consume the char, as well?

We will be happy to provide the Natural Darft gasifier, Peko Pe, for testing.
Under normal condition, the temperature at the pyrolytic front do not reach above 450 - 550 C, and far beyond the critical temperature to create clinker from straw pellets.

This are very important questions and issues, whic goes for the pellet out of Jatropha residue, as well.
I am very happy to see this questions raised AGAIN and I am still a Fan of none fan driven units, meaning Natural Draft.

Otto

‎Dear Tuong

Please address this question to Prof Philip Lloyd who is subscribed to this list. He is a professor of chemical engineering and has a stove testing lab. He may have good ideas on how to design a test method.

Subject: [Stoves] Evidence of carcinogenicity/toxicity in emission from rice straw pellet gasification

Dear stovers,

We are testing rice straw pellet in a small TLUD gasifier in Vietnam.
There's a concern raised during our test that the toxic gases and Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) emitted from the gasification process of rice straw pellet may affect the human health.

Especially the toxic gases may comes from the left-over pesticide inside rice straw under high gasification temperature.

Any suggestion for further testing and/or scientific evidence relating to this are highly appreciated !

Thanks
