Hi Kirk,

I'm also sending this response to Meera who has been associated with
Aprovecho for decades. She was asking for feedback from her article that
you shared.

The three of us have been involved with the stove movement for quite a
while. And we see that the concept of having clean burning stoves being
used on a wide scale has not been actualized. Why?

1.) Health protecting stoves are in their infancy. We are in the Wright
brothers stage in which the clean burning technology is being developed.
The Rocket stove was intended to halve pollution and reduce fuel used to
cook. Cleaner stoves are now needed. The Philips and Bio-Lite stoves are
both in testing phases and these companies should be congratulated for
their ground breaking work.

2.) Stoves succeed where lots of testing has proven, before distribution
efforts begin, that users will be happy with the stove and that, in
practice, it accomplishes the goals of the effort. To reduce illness caused
by breathing smoke the intervention has to be extremely effective. So the
task requires concentrated effort.

3.) Funded experiments are attempting to accomplish these goals. The Global
Alliance, DOE, EPA, etc. are pushing hard to 'get what is inspected'. When
did the movement to address health and climate change by inventing clean
stove technology coupled with how the technology could be successfully
applied begin in earnest?
