[Stoves] An interesting semi-high mass stove

Dear Friends

I second Andrew's suggesting to add a grate.

I suggest that it be made from 12mm round bar with a 5mm spacing. It must
have some air reaching it from below. The purpose if the air and gap is to
make sure the char is fully burned.

The orientation of the bars should be 'in line' with the fuel feed
direction. This causes the ash to be pushed into the small gaps.

The addition of these two features, grate and air supply, to the traditional
clay 'Keren' stove plus the reduction of the pot rest height from 25 to 7mm
and the lowering of the fuel door height by 40mm resulted in the improvement
of the heat transfer efficiency from 16-18% to 33%.

A major factor in that improvement was burning the charcoal that used to
accumulate in the ash on the bottom of the fire chamber.

Crispin

Huck,

Please note that in the manual I referenced earlier,
<https://energypedia.info/images/9/93/GTZ-HOUSEHOLD_Stoves_Construction_Manu
al_June_2008.pdf>, they have dispensed with the fuel feed shelf and have
incorporated a lion stove style air feed/ash clean out set at 90 degrees to
the fuel feed. That modification is used in both the single and multi-pot
designs.

Again, I think a grate would improve performance significantly.
