Please note that in the manual I referenced earlier,  
<https://energypedia.info/images/9/93/GTZ-HOUSEHOLD_Stoves_Construction_Manual_June_2008.pdf>, they have dispensed with the fuel feed shelf and have incorporated a lion stove style air feed/ash clean out set at 90 degrees to the fuel feed. That modification is used in both the single and multi-pot  
designs.

Again, I think a grate would improve performance significantly.
