Hi Julien and All,
Thank you, Julien for your kind remarks.  You and Mahbubul will achieve great freedom to do good with the patent for your stoves.
Happy New Year and much success in the years ahead!
Warm regards,
Rebecca

Hi Rebecca;

It is great to see your video.
https://youtu.be/pFuRg1HfO-w

It is a good example of what my colleague, Mahbubul Islam, and I called a "naturalized stove"; that is, a technology adapted for local use and manufaturing.  Mahbubul gave a paper at the Clean Cooking Forum in Ghana that emphasized local stoves (as opposed to foreign stoves subsidized by carbon credits).  Our punch lines were:
"Cookstoves for the people, by the people."
"Naturalizing cookstoves maintains national self-sufficiency in cooking."

Mahbubul has just submitted a patent for the stoves, and I will send you in a couple of days, when we get its registration number from the Gov. of Bangladesh.

You are an inspiration to us.  I hope we can duplicate your success in Bangladesh in the coming year, and produce our own video.  We will try not to duplicate your cyclone.

Seasons Greetings,
Julien

Dear Friends,
The present video shows how the squatter community at San Pedro Beach in Old Sagay, Negros Occidental, Philippines coped after Typhoon Haiyan (locally known as Yolanda) struck the central Visayas on November 8, 2013. This video builds on two earlier ones (see below) and tackles the issue of sustainability of the Eco-Kalan Kitchen and the children's feeding program with a livelihood project in that community. Two years after Typhoon Haiyan, the Eco-Kalan Project held the "Launching of the Eco-Kalan & Bingka Oven for Livelihood".
Members of the community can cook any food with the kawa or kalaha (wok) and kaldero (cooking pots) using the eco-KALAN-C stove; and bake any food with the Bingka Oven fired by an eco-KALAN-C-O stove using wood or charcoal. The Eco-Kalan Project and our friends donated the building materials for the kitchen and the cooking, baking and feeding equipment, utensils and supplies. In the spirit of Bayanihan, t...
