[Stoves] "Business sickness" Re: Why is it still so difficult to design cookstoves for3 billion people?

Dear Frans, (to Stoves Listserv and to Biochar Listserv where there is
a current discussion on not getting funds for low tech making of biochar
by using cookstove technology) (each listserv can discuss this
separately.)

So well stated by you: Business sickness. Business sickness is part
of the problem regarding stoves and stoves that make biochar.

That term (business sickness) captures the essence of many problems,
including cookstove development and also much of politics and social
service and general aspects.

BUSINESS can be and should be good and should be healthy. This is not
an anti-business message. It is not a socialist message. It is a
message about capitalism that has ways of going astray. (but focus on
STOVES).

The "sickness" aspect comes from excessiveness. The word "greed" is
related, but does not capture the subtle aspects of sickness. Sort of
like eating candy, but eating so much that you get sick. This is
sickness because of lack of balance. Obesity, alcoholism, abuse of
prescription drugs, and any addictions are all "sicknesses."
Fortunately our societies (some members of our societies) do help with
treatment for such sicknesses of excessiveness.

But business sickness (excessive business focus) is likely to get
applause. Society praises the billionaires.

BUT let's keep this topic focused on STOVES and on Biochar from
STOVES. (These listservs are NOT for making comments about politics in
America or elsewhere. Stick to STOVES!!!

1. How can we find more funding for stove projects that can be close to
breaking even in the long run, without highly attractive profit
margins? Are we doomed to depend on "donors" (bless them all) who are
too few to cover the tasks?

2. Why do governments of impoverished countries or struggling countries
get sucked into the business sickness of large expensive infrastructure
projects that have so little benefit to the majority of their people,
but do rather little about cookstove efforts?

3. MAYBE the Stove Community is at fault. Or maybe some part of our
Community has the sickness and impacts the other parts?

4. Maybe Paul Anderson is too far off track.

Paul
