[Stoves] Solar Powered Stoves Relevant?

Dear Daniel

What a great post. Thanks for bringing this technology to our attention. I for one will follow this with interest as it has the potential to address functional and safety issues with sola‎r cooking.

There is another approach taken by Garth Foxcroft in the 90's which is to separate two chemicals using sunlight and combine them to provide a heated mat on which cooking could be performed.

The ‎'mat' held the two chemicals. It was flipped upside down and placed in the sun and the chemicals separated. When cooking was starting the mat was flipped over and the chemicals combined to produce heat.

It would work well using your Fresnel lens concept. In a way it is the opposite of what you have. It stores the energy chemically. Because I don't know what the chemicals are, it is possible is uses the latent heat of fusion as well (crystals).

Thanks for the message
Crispin

Hi all,

What do others think about solar powered stoves?

It seems relevant to our cause but I worry about the pollution involved in
manufacture and disposal.

Article below refers to "the Lithium Nitrate acting as a battery storing
thermal energy for 25 hours at a time. The heat is then released as
convection for outdoor cooking."...

http://inhabitat.com/wilson-solar-grill-stores-the-suns-energy-for-nighttime-fuel-free-grilling/

I appologies if this is off-topic.
