[Stoves] Stoves 'not used for cooking'

Dear Friends

 

Here is a photo of a stove 'not used for cooking' in rural Tajikistan:

 



 

And that is typically what you find sitting on top of such a 'space heating'
stove.

 

Interpretations of what constitutes cooking are culturally rooted!

 

Stoves are most often placed just inside to the right of a doorway.

 



 

These stoves are made from recycled steel pipe removed from the district
heating system. It is a great material and the stoves last 5-10 years. The
door is cut out of the pipe using an angle grinder . The insert visible
around the cut-out. It is welded on the inside and is done so well that
closing the door completely shuts off the air supply. This would allow for
effective air control but it really is only possible using the lower door:
open or closed. It is not very effective as a control mechanism - too
coarse.

 

So an alternative was prepared that can be made just as easily:

 



This solution gives really good air control.
