Dear Michael

There are two new stoves on trial this winter in Kyrgyzstan, Models KG4.3 with a cast iron top and a new KG2.5 with an ash drawer incorporated. We will be changing the door and drawer shortly to accommodate user input.

Caritas in Tajikistan is producing two new stoves, a variation on their older heating and cooking stove with integrated water heater (via thermosiphon).

They also have a version of the KG2.0 that looks like the KG 2.5, meaning an elevated heat exchanger top on which a second cooking station can heat water. These are dung and wood burning stoves. Cooking with dong only is quite a challenge to do reasonably cleanly and this set of products is showing a way forward. They are not great, but the improvement is obvious.

The translator in Muminabad told me he can look out in the morning and tell what fuel each family in the town is burning by the smoke coming from their chimneys. He agreed that the improved dung burners have smoke that is the same or better than the wood burning traditional stoves. It is a very big difference.

We have a report from the Naryn district of Kyrgyzstan that a woman who was using a large open fire outdoors to cook a certain food had moved to the KG2.5 because burning dung only it was better than the far larger open fire outside. Traditionally it is believed that dung can only be burned co-fired with wood which often has to be purchased, particularly in the uplands and the North West. This new stove shows a way forward for under $100. The stove is large and is used for heating and cooking in homes over 50 sq M when it is as cold as -30 outside.

It is hard to express how much knowledge, info, education the list has provided me over nearly a decade now. Much of this is due to Tom Miles inspiration I know it has provided 1000s if not 1,000,000s with stoves and ideas that may or may not helped to better lives. Some have adoprted adapt4ed an moved on, some have back slide to the 3 stove fire.

However as we move into a new year can we move on? I do n o think I have seen a new fresh stove or idea since when ever. It is circular arguments rehashing the same thing over and over and over again.

I often find myself just going down the column click click click delete delete delete.

LETS GET BACK TO STOVES
