Hi Anil,

Some of them are like that. Not worth much but some you are required to follow. And some are really good. Always nice to be able to cite an ASTM method in the lab report. Looking at the abstract, they give you just enough info to draw you in. Then you find out you can’t afford the equipment or the test is time consuming, or most often, it is not designed specific enough for the project you are doing. I just purchased ASTM D6646 that determines breakthrough of hydrogen sulfide when using biochar as a filter. Special tank of N2+H2S and I need a detector (expensive) and glassware and etc. etc. Just wasted $35 as the equipment is too expensive for the amount of requests for it. It would be an interesting test and one I would like to do.

Thanks

Frank

He used them to heat his water and house through the biomass heater! He always boasted that this is what he thinks about those reports but got lots of energy out of them!

One question I think you can answer is: ‘fuel characteristics’ what does that mean? Is it the difference between oak chips and corn cobs? OR between high carbon density (Carbon / cu-cm) and low carbon density biomass etc. etc…..

With all the millions being spent comparing the pm2.5 produced between a ‘3-stone fire to the microwave oven’ I would think this could be made free to the public it being so important in getting the real needed research moving. A lot more research and science is in the future. All stove labs should be very busy this year - should be.
