Yes and this is largely to do with the inability to maintain a high
enough temperature due to both heat losses from the stove, latent heat
of vaporisation robbing the fire of energy and the simple fact that
wetter wood demands more primary air, hence the excess air goes up
with the smoke also taking heat
 with it.
