Wood chips cut from residual parts of wood (branches) are a good source of energy in Finland replacing fossil fuels. The waste of wood derived short rotation material (paper, cardboard) after recycling can also be finally burned to energy replacing the use of fossil fuels. If the forest is left by itself, it may be destroyed in storms, fires and by insects releasing the carbon without utilizing its potential.
	[RWL1:  This controversy exists also in the UN and USA - not just the EU.   I am glad that forestry is winning out - and should be an easy choice when biochar (for carbon negativity reasons) is part of the loop.

I will maybe look anew through the measurements files to study these effects with respect to the char production.
	[RWL4:  Agree with all that.  This was a major topic on this list also about twenty years ago when Canadian Alex English was describing his excellent success in modifying a moving grate boiler to co-produce char.  As you say, the key was speeding up the moving grate.  Similar success by stove list moderator Andrew Heggie a little later.

But the Chinese may already have taken the biochar lead away from you!
