Stovers,

1) We should change the name: Perhaps ‘Cooking Task Test'.

2) The successful task is determined using a Standard & Certified block of steel ~ 6 cm cubed with a calibrated thermistor inserted. It is suspended in a pot of water, or placed on a cast iron frying pan and the temperature profile recorded and compared to what is required to complete a real task.

3) The biomass fuel used goes through a package of tests. Important being Fixed and volatile carbon, bulk and particle density, etc. The tests chosen is determined to be important based on http://setosa.io/ev/principal-component-analysis/ <http://setosa.io/ev/principal-component-analysis/>. If shown to not be important it could be the test should be omitted or the method used to analyze the property needs be modified.

4) The fuel and task are important. But side tests like PM2.5, stability and safety can be added.

5) The above tests are done at reasonable cost so any backyard tinsmith with a new idea can have their stove tested and compared to other stoves.

6) A group of stoves deemed to be suitable for a receiving site based on lab tests is determined. NOT the time to purchase 100,000 of them for distribution. Its time to take the best potential into the field and see how well they are received and work under field conditions.

7) Funding should be (I’m thinking) by private funds from the likes of Bill Gates or Donald Trump to a private lab like Aprovecho to work on the above Industry Standards.

Thanks

Frank
