	I'd still like to kick around the "short log" idea and other char-making possibilities.  But Alex' suggestion earlier today has much more merit -  I wish I had thought of it.  I've never liked that "retort" approach for cookstoves, since there is close to zero capability to control power levels.  But that is not important for your type of space heating.  Could lower costs and produce considerable char relatively easily.  I also like Alex mentioning the availability of H2 - what you want for cleaner heating we don't want in char.
