I've been working as a renewable energy consultant doing cost and 
performance modeling over  the last ten years. Most clients don't want 
an R&D project but rather cost-effective, reliable energy. Low GHG 
emissions is an attractive feature but rarely in my experience the only 
driver. PV is very attractive in that regard as it's low maintenance, 
performance guarantees given site insolation are relatively simple, the 
generation curve often fits commercial site consumption patterns etc 
Some clients are prepared to take more of a punt with kit that might 
need more attention but which will perform within that operational 
envelope. The Spanner is looking interesting in that context.
