We would love to gasify fuel of any quality, but the realities of controlling any thermal biomass process, is to first control the moisture content of the fuel. Gasifiers can "sort of" handle moisture variation, but it is always at cost to the gas making cycle. When the gasifier output is also required to be variable depending on it's application, the tight control really does kick into gear. You should expect to see more pre-dried fuel chip ( <10%) being specified in future gasification projects, along with a chip size specifications, especially where the producer gas quality really matters.
