To All Greenbuilders: OAK RIDGE, Tenn. U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., on Friday announced Senate passage of Senate Resolution 519... a Senate resolution marking Oct. 12, 2012... as a National Day of Remembrance for Nuclear Weapon Program Workers. The Day of Remembrance honors the thousands of men and women who supported the nation’s nuclear efforts during the Cold War.... Alexander introduced the resolution with Sens. Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M., Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., Bob Corker, R-Tenn., Mike Crapo, R-Idaho, Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., Mark Udall, D-Colo., Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., Harry Reid, D-Nev., Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, and Tom Udall, D-N.M.. (From The Oak Ridger, Posted Aug 3, 2012)Read More If you want to learn more about a contaminated nuclear facility near you, search the AEC/ERDA/DOE/OSTI database @ osti.gov/energycitations. National Labs featured in "The Atomic States of America", a 2012 Sheena Joyce film based on Kelly McMasters Book about BNL, Welcome to Shirley, are among the most notorious. The database has over 300,000 AEC/ERDC/DOEreports kept secret for decades so local real estate values in their 20-mile fallout zone wouldn't plummet & workers wouldn't head for the hills. Most of them simply died or faded away. Since 2000 over $8 billion, mostly in death benefits, have been paid to heirs of those to be remembered on October 30, 2012. Since 2010, over $200,000,000 have been paid to heirs of fallen BNL workers.
