Erin, Gennaro & Reuben: Would you believe old nuclear reactors may be licensed for another 40 years, according to "Fitness Tests for Old Nuclear Reactors --Can nuclear power stations operate safely for 80 years?" By Leonard J. Bond, IEEE Spectrum, August 2011. This means, lots of carbon-free energy will be available for at least 4 decades and tankless electric water heaters will continue to be the cleanest, most efficient way to heat water in on grids serve by these nukes.
Gennaro will love this, since he lives near one of the oldest, Indian Point. The oldest in NY is the 42 year old Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station. See photos of the 15 oldest @

Three of the oldest at Brookhaven National Labs (BNL) poisoned all of Suffolk County, according to reports dating back to 1947; recently uploaded and linked to gfxtechnology.com/BNL.html
Best regards,
Carmine
P.S. Where the spent fuel rods will go is another matter, since Obama closed Yucca Mountain? Untold tons of BNL's waste was burned in the Northport Power Plant, dumped in LI landfills and the Peconic River & made into compost sold at local supermarkets.
