[Greenbuilding] ok - why do houses have to have stay the same temp inside?

Such as?  Maintaining a desired temperature (not necessarily a 
consistent one) is one of the things that is asked of us by people who 
live in houses.  It is things which takes by far the most energy and 
money.  If you have another suggestion let's hear it.
