[Greenbuilding] On-Demand water heater

Assuming you turn off the water heater for the 9-10 months you're not
there, any hoped for return on the investment would be cut to 1/4 in this
situation. Electric tankless sytems require substantial wiring to support
the current draw.

This seems like a situation where a propane water heater might be wise. Is
this house served by natural gas? If you're there in the summer, what about
a simple solar shower that may or may not be plumbed into the mains?
