Hi Lynelle,

My preference would be for mounting railings to the fascia, minimizing penetrations through the membrane.
In similar circumstances I’ve used 1 to 2” pieces of shed. 40 PVC pipe, 2” dia. Then fix the posts to the facia with the pipe acting as a spacer between post and fascia (fasteners- either lag bolts or structural screws such as GRK- hidden by the pipe section).
This gets the post away from the facia a bit, allowing both to dry better, and reducing conflicts with flashings etc. Railings are “post-to-post”.
