Lanny,
I wanted to emphazice that the "burner" could be used to heat diffrent types of pots and devices in diffrent combinations and applicants.
I consider a chimmney to go into the open air, either from inside or placed outside and must eitherway be considered as natural draft. With a chimmney, you could be a bit more "relaxed" about indoor airpolution, but with reference to fuel efficiency you will have the same caracteristics as an open fire device.
What is a forced mechanical fan?I have only heard about fans powered by electricity, like the WoodGas or jet engine fans powered by Jet-fuel (kerosine). If the chimmney is to short or narrow, you can place a fan on top to be powered by the wind to draft the smoke upwards from the fireplace - is that a forced mechanical fan? Good luck.
