Kevin,

Note that I used the phrase "sufficiently uniform". I have experimented
with several forms of loose biomass in no way as uniform as rice hulls,
such as coffee husks. Some work quite nicely.

But I would not venture a guess about the wooden spheres you describe.
I like to see a certain resistance to air or gas flow.
We can't say much until we run tests.
