Dean and list:

	1. Based on your Friday message below, ETHOS should have an outstanding bump in attendance. Thanks for your work in organizing and promoting. (Abstracts due 1 Jan.)

	2. You have also been recently commenting on this list about last month’s WHO report, which you mention in your last line below and I have final gotten to skim through. This is to hope that you can assure some ETHOS dialog on how it compares to the DoE and GACC efforts. I recommend all read at least the last few pages of that report - found at:
http://apps.who.int/iris/bitstream/10665/141496/1/9789241548885_eng.pdf

	3. As an example, I hope you can find knowledgeable persons to talk about this from Annex Section 9.2:

The IWA is designed with three main goals in mind. The first goal is that the
tiers of performance should allow the sector to acknowledge progress (from a
baseline of Tier 0) while setting aspirational goals (Tier 4). For the indoor emissions
indicator, the emissions rate that qualifies stoves for Tier 4 is based on that
which will result in meeting existing WHO indoor air quality guidelines for fine
particulate matter (PM2.5) (annual average interim target (IT)-1 of 35 µg/m3) (1)
and CO (24-hr average of 7 mg/m3) (2) using an earlier version of the single-zone
model described in Review 3.

and where you have talked about the IWA having for instance 2 mg/m3 for CO. I’d just like to hear more on such details at ETHOS.

	4. Thanks also for the recent summary you gave of the 14 points discussed in detail in this WHO report. I found the report to be well written by knowledgeable people, However, they apparently failed to have any authors who have been investigating char-making stoves - the topic of about half the messages on this list. I see a little recognition under the term “fans” - but hope others more familiar with this WHO report can explain more on this lapse. (And Aprovecho was not well enough represented either in that WHO study.)

And how biochar can promote better stove performance - if we ever see carbon credits.

	5. I don’t see as much enthusiasm in this report for LPG as we have recently discussed on this list re GACC comments on LPG. Hope that also can be big at ETHOS.

Ron

These projects will report their progress and 'Tier 4' stoves will be displayed and lit in the courtyard!

ETHOS provides a space for interacting and asking questions. What is happening with the ISO standards? What do the new WHO guidelines mean for stove projects?
