Friends,

I recently suggested a water test for seeing what sort of pattern the gases coming out of a TLUD might create.  This photo suggests what happens when a "concentrating" ring with a circular aperture less than the diameter of the TLUD is used:



Looks a lot like an inverted spire of flame that many a TLUD with a concentrator ring ejects.

My initial tests pouring water out of a TLUD with three deflector washers gives dramatically different results -- as might be expected.  The can I am testing with, a small soup can iCan, empties so fast that I am having difficulty getting a good image of the pattern the exiting water makes when I invert the iCan.   I will have to make an iCan TLUD with no bottom so I can continuously fill it in order to to properly photograph the discharge pattern the water flow reveals.  This will be some weeks from now as I am in Boston and my workshop is in northern VT.
