Dear Ron

“2. Maybe Nikhil’s difficulties with this concept stem from his believing there is only a WBT procedure in the current ISO process. There is another huge and much more difficult process to develop guidelines for field testing. You hear ore about the WBT because it is further along in the ISO TG285 process. More coming later on reports on Group 3 at the end of the ETHOS meeting.”

You are under a misapprehension. There is no WBT in the product of WG2. The IWA refers to WBT 4.1.2 which suffered from severe problems: only one of the 9 stove performance metrics in the IWA was produced by that WBT. I know this may be a small detail to some, but it rendered the document unusable. Three of the IWA metrics (not produced by the WBT) are physically invalid deepening the problem.

No one wants the WBT. Without a clique of promoters it would have died and been forgotten long ago. Literally everyone wants something else, mostly something that is conceptually sound and relevant to predicting performance.

WG1 is for conceptual analysis of all the documents, which includes creating definitions.

Regards
Crispin
