[Stoves] Stoves Digest, Vol 101, Issue 18

Norm,

I find that if I carefully minimize the primary air supply in my tin  can tluds they actually pretty much self extinguish. If I leave a burn over night, there will be loss of char. But there is little loss within a reasonable window after the gas fire for has gone out.

I try to keep the primary air as sparce as possible. Just enough primary air to sustain the start up phase when the full for load presents the most resistance to the entrance of the primary.

I generally give a burn 2 minutes of charcoal burn after the gas fire has self extinguished.  The amount of smoke given off during this 2 minutes is a pretty good indicator of the cleanliness of the burn.

Cheers,

Jock
