[Stoves] Realities about innovative stove work Re: fan expertise?

I agree with you

But please realize that......

1.  The VAST MAJORITY of even the Stovers on this listserv (who actively 
develop stoves)  and especially the Implementers of stove projects (who 
directly purchase or indirectly support the makers of stoves) have 
limited knowledge about and probably no experience with gasifier 
stoves               (and some of that knowledge is incorrect or out of 
date, and some experiences were with very early prototypes).       To 
change that is very difficult.   (But a big "Thank you" to those who are 
working on biomass gasifier stoves.)

2.  Tradition and inertia are powerful forces for both those who should 
be knowledgeable (mentioned above) and for the ultimate stove users in 
the low-income communities and rural areas. This is the reality of our 
world.

3.  In spite of all the talk about the value and importance of 
innovation and new technology, the entire world still uses what has been 
around for a while and has been accepted.  And the money for stove work 
is quite traditional and does not flow to the new and innovative.   
Those of us who are old enough even remember the YEARS and YEARS it took 
to introduce even what is today considered standard:  micro-computers in 
the 1970's/80; and mobile/cell phones;  and the Internet.    And those 
three were stimulated by BIG money and were initially sold to people in 
wealthy cultures with fantastic profits that drove stockmarket success 
stories. NEITHER the big money nor the market to wealthy people nor 
great profits are present to move rapidly forward the innovations such 
as gasifier stoves in the cookstove efforts.

4.  And of course we have to face the political chains that bind even 
some of those with the best of intentions.   I refer to the GACC policy 
of being "technology neutral".   Neutrality favors the established and 
large and powerful.   I have confidence that eventually the GACC and a 
wide spectrum of stove producers and project implementers will turn 
their attention to the micro-gasifier stoves.   After all, to be 
"technology neutral" should not lead to implementations that are 
"technology blind" or "technology stupid."

So, Otto and a few others, take comfort that you are in the vangard, at 
the frontiers, leading what will inevitable follow, that is, the 
eventual awakening about biomass gasifier stoves. To us who are 
believers and have solid experience, this is painfully slow.   But the 
floodgates for these stoves will eventually open.

And why not put everything on the Listserv?   Some things take a bit of 
time to get ready.   Progress will be announced, but most readers want 
results, not discussion.   Those willing to discuss AND PARTICIPATE in 
the new developments usually function best (IMO) in focused groups.   
(and this Stoves Listserv is not focused for solving tasks.)   So, 
capable people need to step forward and get involved in the tasks.
